What is FLAM?
In the simplest of definitions, FLAM is an alternative conference exploring contemporary arts and learning co-sponsored by the Contemporary Art Salon and LVCP High School. However, tradition may have a place elsewhere, but not at FLAM...
Evacuate the idea of an “Art Education Conference” and
join us in our vision of a festival, slam, art party, mash-up, collaborative learning-teaching gathering, hosting a cornucopia of fresh, new, and inspiring ways to bring contemporary art to the classroom and beyond. And of course, no FLAM would be complete without our target audience and objective: the students.
Unlike traditional conferences, housed in a box of familiarity, this contemporary arts education festival-slam (FLAM) has put the students in charge and at the forefront of the action. FLAM is hosted, produced, and created by students and teachers, working alongside one another toward a deeper, more exciting, new way of teaching and learning with contemporary art.
Join us in the revolution.
Join us in the first ever, student lead and inspired, organic and fresh, contemporary arts FLAM.
About our Co-Sponsor: LVCP
Livermore Valley Charter Prep (LVCP) is a college prep charter high school that focuses on project-based learning. Each class implements curriculum designed that use essential questions and “big ideas” with project components that include writing, art and technology. We are also a digital school where students utilize laptops, digital portfolios and complete assignments via Google docs and Google Drive.
Because of our size (currently around 500 students) and progressive focus, LVCP gives students unique opportunities to take ownership and become true participants in their own learning in a variety of ways including:
LVCP's visual and digital arts department is headed by Lovely Shanti Kelly, founder and director of the Contemporary Art Salon. She, her Contemporary Art and Graphic Design students, and a production team of student-artists are working alongside other faculty members as well as the global steering committee to bring FLAM to life.
